Just realized I haven’t taken a #dailylittle pic all week. #fashionfriday

I keep hearing that it takes about three Fixes for StitchFix to really know you and get you. And, this being my second, I was excited to see what they’d picked for me, but prepared for them to get just some of it right. And, really, with a personal shopper who you’ve never met and lives thousands of miles away, that should be expected anyway. I shouldn’t want to love everything, right?

stitch fix unboxing review

So, inside this month’s fix… (sorry, folks. Not only is there no video this time, but also hardly any make-up, unkempt hair and a very tired model (that would be me) with a photographer/husband who was exhausted.)

Stitch Fix Number 2

41Hawthorn Ivy Aztec Print Tab-Sleeve Blouse Top row, left: Can you tell how much I dislike top? I’m also really, really bummed about it. I thought I’d like the colors and the Aztec pattern, but the top was just enormous. The v-neck hit under my bra and when I tried it with coordinating camis it looked frumpier.

Leota Melony 3/4 Sleeve Chevron Print Wrap Dress Top row, center: There were no words for this, I almost didn’t even take a picture. Everything about this dress was just wrong wrong wrong on me. It hit me at an awkward spot on my legs, it was too wide below the hips, and the all-over small chevron was just far too much. Plus, the belt seemed cheap. (The belt was the same material, but it didn’t tie well at all. I considered trying a different belt, but didn’t bother. There was no way I was keeping this dress.

Dylan and Rose Ruthie Cross-Front Side-Ruched Top, Top row, right: I didn’t really want to keep this top, but my husband convinced me otherwise when I tried it with jeans. (The card of suggested outfits showed it with a skirt or slacks [below], but I tried on about 6 skirts and each looked worse than the rest.) With anything but jeans, the cut of the top on the bottom makes it look like there’s a ball in my belly–it’s not my stomach, it’s the cut, I promise. It’s just too round at the wrong place. But with jeans, it’s slimming. It’s also really short on the sides. If I raised my hand, you’d see how pale my stomach is right now (and no one wants to see that.) But I do like the length of the v-neck and the ruched side–similar to the red dress I almost kept last time. Like I said, I almost didn’t keep it, and, actually, I’m still not certain why I did besides seeming like something I’ll wear on a random day running errands and that my husband suggested I wear it to a casual event we had coming up. It’s fine for a causal day, I suppose.

Tart Benni Ikat Print Knit Shirt, Bottom row, left: When I first opened my box, wasn’t convinced. But as soon as I had this top on I knew it was a keeper. It looks good tucked in or untucked and I can dress it up with skirts or nice white or navy pants, or dress it down with shorts or jeans. I’m a big fan of Tart Collection at 6pm and Tart Collection at Nordstrom. Their prices are inviting and they’re in line with both fashion and comfort.

Lily Maggie Dot Print Faux Wrap Dress, Bottom row, right: I love it when I put on a dress and it fits me right, everywhere. There was nothing about this dress to complain about… except that I need to make plans to wear it.

So… my opinion on StitchFix?

I’m happy enough to plan to order another Fix, I enjoy the entertainment and the excitement of someone else selecting my clothing, and trying things on that I likely wouldn’t have found at the stores and lugged to the dressing room to try. I’m still having buyer’s remorse over that blue shirt. I’m afraid it will sit in my closet and the hanger will never turn to show it’s worn. But my husband will, likely, suggest I wear it sometime soon because he likes it.

I’d far prefer that, rather than five mixed pieces that I have to shop my closet to make work, Stitch Fix would send me one look that works together, and that I can mix and match the individual pieces with things in my closet. I know I’m hard to fit, but I’d be happy to try pants or a skirt with one of their tops. Or a summer sweater or jacket or necklace. Just give me something fun to pull these looks together.

My Next Fix

My next fix is scheduled to arrive around the 3rd week of May. There’s a really tiny area where you can write a note to your stylist, but, apparently, I’m too wordy, so I’m writing it here and linking for her to read:

I really don’t need any more tops to wear with jeans. I’d LOVE to receive a complete look–one that my stylist puts together that I can just walk out and wear… and I can also pull apart to pieces so that I can shop my closet. I’d happily welcome accessories, a light jacket, skirt or summer pants, and would love a light, casual spring dress.

Want to give StitchFix a try? Here’s my link. The cost is $20, but they credit you the $20 if you buy anything. Try it once or twice (or three times); it’s fun and energizes your closet!

Got My Second Fix! #StitchFix I keep hearing that it takes about three Fixes for StitchFix to really know you and get you.

April Family Meal Plan: a month of dinners, planned.

We’re celebrating one of my favorite holidays tonight. I love Passover for the family dinner and the storytelling. It’s one of the holidays wheb everyone is gathered around the table, sharing life, enchanted by the stories that made so much of the world what it is. This is the holiday where we explore the 10 plagues and the parting of the Red Sea. When we celebrate curiosity and encourage…

It was a great idea, wasn’t it? This flash sale idea that popped up around 2 years ago, where .coms would offer deals of the day that were anywhere from 40-80% off. Deals you had to buy that moment before they were gone. They were Living Social and Groupon boutiques, really. Jetsetters for the style-savvy. Before we knew it, everyone had a mustbuyitnowbeforeitsgone dot com.

sites like jane.com, boutique, daily deals,

And sales were through the roof. So much so that one deal a day became two deals a day became 20 deals a day, and more. This week, industry leaderJane has over 235 Daily Boutique Deals listed, some sold out, many with multiple color and size options. Competitor Sassy Steals is listing about 65 deals, GroopDealz about 150 styles.  Meanwhile, Pick Your Plum stuck to the original plan, hosting about 7 sales a day, that are announced at 7 am MDT and last just for that day.

Is it worth it to wade through the deals?

Do you know someone who doesn’t like a bargain? So… yes. It is. I don’t go through them daily (though you can subscribe via email, facebook, twitter or all the other social media networks) but when I’m searching or something trendy or gifty and have time to wait out shipping, which can, at times, be extensive waiting — read the fine print before ordering, it’s completely worthwhile.

These sites are excellent for teacher gifts, scarves, fashion jewelry, trendy kids’ clothing and, sometimes, casual wear. I haven’t bought much clothing because I’m a hard-to-fit size, but I almost always go to daily deals sites for scarves, hair ties, decorating ideas for my daughter’s room and inexpensive accessories, like stacking bracelets and statement necklaces.

Words of advice: Act quickly! These deals aren’t for the wishy-washy. They’re limited time and limited quantity.

Jane

It’s tough to call so many bargains a problem… unless you’re prone to falling for them all. Watch out. Jane.com has many sales ending today. (Check out their current $100 giveaway as well.)

Also, my son peeked over my shoulder and noticed this sale, which ends today. He’s having me order these Frozen prints for Little as a birthday present.

My memories, my feelings, my pictures, my Disney. Might be my favorite post of all time.

YAY Spring!!!!!

I love Disney World, Disney movies and Disney Memories. But, for several reasons, I opted out of participating in the #DisneySide promotion seen throughout Social Media this winter. I just didn’t see it. Disney is wonderful, but a #DisneySide? I wasn’t sure I had a different side when it came to Disney or, for that matter, very much of anything else. But, last weekend, I took just my boys to…
